Button Crafts

Use buttons to rejuvenate an old set of placemats and napkins

Placemats and Napkins

Use buttons to rejuvenate an old set of placemats and napkins, or purchase a new set for this project. You'll need:

  • Buttons
  • Fabric glue
  • Placemats and napkins
  • Needle and thread
  1. First, take your time deciding where you want the buttons, then use the fabric glue to adhere them to the fabric.
  2. Sew in place.

Express yourself!

Decide whether you want to use matching or contrasting thread to sew the buttons. Also, you can play with different types of stitches. For instance, if the button has four holes, try sewing it in place with an "x" stitch.

Napkin rings

To make these adorable accessories, you'll need to have a rudimentary knowledge of crocheting.

You'll need:

  • Elastic thread
  • Crochet needle Buttons
  1. Start by stringing approximately 35 to 40 buttons onto the thread.
  2. Take your crochet hook and make a chain about 3 inches long. The buttons will be in between the hook and the spool.
  3. Form a circle by connecting the two ends with a slipstitch. This is the base of your napkin ring.
  4. Single stitch crochet around the circle. As you begin each stitch, slide one button up to the hook, and "capture" it as you insert the hook into the chain. Continue until you've gone around the circle twice.
  5. Bind off.
