Tower over the rest with this surprisingly easy-to-make kid's Halloween costume
Making homemade Halloween costumes doesn't have to be daunting -- with this DIY giraffe, it's not a stretch to create an adorable costume from scratch. Just follow these step-by-step instructions: many of the supplies can already be found around your home.
Create the neck. First, for the bottom, take two sheets of posterboard, roll into a cone shape and tape together. Take another sheet, cut in half and double. Roll into a cone shape that fits on top of the first sheets and tape together.
Cut out a long thin piece of posterboard for the head, roll into a cone and tape together.
Tape head to neck, and paper mache with strips of newspaper and flour and water paste for strength. Also paper mache the box.
Take kraft paper and cut out geometric spots, two eyelashes, two ears and a long mane.
Use Mod Podge to attach spots to the neck and box. Brush onto the neck, place a spot down and then cover the spot with Mod
Podge. Glue on the eyelashes, ears and mane. Cut out a hole in the neck for face.
Spear a styrofoam ball with the smaller end of a pair of takeout chopsticks. Repeat. Cut two small holes (smaller than the big end of copsticks) on top of giraffe head with a knife and insert chopstick.
To wear, put the box over your child's head, put the neck on and secure from the inside with heavy duty tape.
