Chick Easter egg

Create a meagerie of precious Easter chicks with this cute-as-a-button craft idea.


YOU'LL NEED (makes 1 chick egg):

  • Beak, wing, comb and tail feather templates (download here)
  • Printer and plain white paper
  • Scissors
  • Yellow felt, 6" square
  • Chalk or pen
  • Orange card stock,
  • 3" square
  • Hydrangea craft punch (Martha Stewart Crafts; michaels.com)
  • Blown egg, dyed or painted yellow
  • Hot-glue gun
  • 2 small black craft beads
  • 1 small yellow button (optional)

 

  1. Print beak, wing, comb and tail feather templates and cut out with scissors. Place templates on felt and trace around them using chalk or pen (trace around wing template twice to make 2 wings). Cut out. Place beak template on orange card stock; cut out.
  2. Use paper punch to make two small flower shapes out of orange card stock.
  3. For standing chick: Hold egg vertically. If needed, glue a small yellow button to bottom of egg to help it stand. Position flower shapes to look like feet, using photo as a guide. Glue in place.
  4. For crouching chick: Hold egg horizontally and position flower shapes to look like feet. Glue in place.
  5. Glue wings, comb and tail feather in place, using photo as a guide.
  6. For eyes, position black beads and glue in place.
  7. Fold orange card-stock beak template in half to form triangular shape; glue in place.
