Jingle all the way with low-cost homemade Christmas decorations, gift wrap and cards
Press a tree stamp on paper, then color in and cut out. Copy a favorite family picture; cut out. Glue both pieces to folded, colored craft paper, and trim it with ribbon. Cut out and glue on a computer-generated holiday greeting.
Cut three graduated triangles out of felt, the largest no wider then three inches. Glue white paper to folded card stock. Cut tree trunk out of card stock. Glue trunk, then felt triangles, to paper. Add square pieces of felt as gifts. Trim gifts and tree with ribbon, mini garland, sequins or glitter.
Cut twigs into seven pieces: one trunk and six graduated boughs. Tie red twine onto branches. With small amounts of hot glue, stick tree onto brown card stock; glue onto folded red card stock. Hot-glue twigs to edges of brown card. Punch hole in right edge and lace with twine-tie closure.
Glue a white square to folded red card stock, then a brown one on top. Hot-glue fresh greenery in a circular wreath shape. Glue on faux berries and a ribbon bow.
Evergreen sprig card
Glue brown paper to folded red card stock, then patterned paper on top. Hot-glue a sprig of evergreen to patterned paper, then glue a small square of paper over the bottom of the stem. Punch a hole in right edge and lace with a ribbon closure.
Cut mini stockings out of foam and stitch directly to a card with colored yarn.
Punch a circular wreath pattern into a square of foam and stitch with colored yarn. Make a card out of scrapbook paper and glue together.
Cut circles out of scrapbook paper with a two-inch paper punch. Place stickers on cutouts to spell out peace, joy or other holiday greeting. Punch holes at opposite ends of each circle, and string together with colored yarn. Present card in a watchmaker's case.
Dip the end of a small, detail paint brush in white acrylic paint and dot ornament.
Decorate gingerbread cookies (be sure to poke a hole at the top before baking) with icing. After base is dry, add details with edible markers. Attach ribbon to hang.
Fold three sheets of red paper into fans and glue together at edges to make base medallion. Make a smaller medallion and hot-glue it to center of larger one. Glue mini mercury ornament to the center. Punch hole in top and tie with ribbon.
Wheat star ornaments
Cut five stems of wheat to four inches for each star. Make a star shape and tie ends with red twine.
Punch holes out of craft paper with a two-inch circle punch; punch two holes in each circle and string twine through to make a chain.
God's eye ornaments
Place two lollipop sticks in a cross and wrap colored yarn around the center, weaving in and out of the sticks. Change yarn color and repeat until fully covered. Hot-glue end of yarn to stick.
Candy hoop ornaments
Take an embroidery hoop apart; place large hoop on a flat surface. Place a piece of tulle over it and arrange candy. Cover with a second piece of tulle, and fit smaller hoop into larger hoop. Tighten metal screw and tie with ribbon.
Cut 50 10-inch strands of yarn. Fold in half. Cinch with yarn an inch from the top to create the head and in the middle to create a waist. Pull out six strands on each side to create arms; braid and cut. Split yarn in half at waist to create legs; cinch at ankles.
Felt frame tag
Cut felt to cover border of a small board. Stick felt and ribbon around edge of board and a felt loop to top with tacky glue. Tape picture in center, and glue name tag to front.
With a sewing machine, stitch a border on a card with red or gold thread. Add sticker letters.
Pipe-cleaner wreath tag
Wrap a wooden wreath circle with green pipe cleaners. Make a loop at the top. Add tiny berries with small stitches of red embroidery floss. Cut out and glue on computer-generated name tag.
Cut a dove out of paper using a cookie cutter as a stencil. Add details with an embossing stylus. Rub with red pastel chalk. Place dove on red card paper and cut out a shape ¼ inch larger. Glue together. Glue computer-generated name tag in beak.
Wooden leaf tag
Draw a freehand leaf design on balsa wood or use a cookie cutter as a stencil. Cut shape from wood. With red acrylic paint, dot edges and write name of recipient. Punch a hole in wood and tie with red ribbon.
Punched mini-bag tags
Punch a hole in a mini shopping bag with a tree cutout. Drop in a colored card and write name inside cutout. Weave ribbon on top.
Cut a butterfly shape out of colored vellum using a cookie cutter as a stencil; make a smaller version and glue centers together. Glue on pipe cleaner and computer-generated name tag. Add dots with a marker.
Paint each letter with light layer of white glue. Cover with glitter and let dry. Glue to pieces of ribbon.
Wrap a lollipop stick entirely with colored yarn. Place self-stick googly eyes on lollipop wrapper. Cut out and glue on paper bow tie as name tag; decorate tie with marker.
Holly-leaf-and-berry gift wrap
Cut holly leaves from green felt. Tie package with ribbon. Hot-glue holly leaves onto ribbon; add red bells as berries.
Start with ribbons in two or three colors. Wrap pieces of one color around length of package; affix to back of package with double-stick tape. Weave other colors of ribbon around width of package to make a design, and secure with double-stick tape.
Gold popper wrap
Fill paper-towel tube with small gifts. Wrap with gold tissue. Glue an accent ribbon around center.
Felt gift wrap
Wrap easy-cut felt around an object; hot-glue in place. Finish top edge with pinking shears. Tie with twine and fresh berries.
Cut lengths of ribbon that fit around can. Hot-glue trim to top, bottom and middle. Add greenery.
Pleat red paper, then wrap it around length of package. Tape in place, and tuck gift tag, mementos or gift certificates in one of the pleats.
Candy-dot bow wrap
Wrap dot candy around package and tape in place. Loop dot candy (about 2 feet) into a bow and cinch center with ribbon. Hot-glue bow onto gift.
Cut a two-by-three inch piece of cardboard. Wrap yarn 80 to 100 times around length for large pom-pom (width for small pom-pom). Carefully pull looped yarn off and tie it in the center with another piece. Cut loops; fluff and trim to desired shape.
Tie many strands of different colored yarn around a brightly wrapped gift; secure on back with tape.
Fold top of bag and punch six to eight holes through flap. Stitch closed with strands of colored yarn. Trim with a pom-pom, yarn or ribbon.
