Make your own mailbox monster

YOU'LL NEED 

  • 2 shoelaces
  • Measuring tape
  • Pipe insulation (8" longer than mailbox height)
  • Newspaper
  • Duct tape
  • Man’s shirt
  • Monster glove (longer than wrist-length)
  • 18" wooden dowel
  • Hammer
  • Fishing line
  • Scissors
  • Safety pins
  1. To make forearm, tie shoelace 12" from end of insulation; cinch. To make elbow, tie second shoelace 4" up from first; cinch. Remaining insulation will be
  2. upper arm.
  3. Wrap newspaper around upper arm and forearm; secure with tape. Create elbow using balled-up newspaper; tape to insulation. Slide arm through shirtsleeve.
  4. Slip glove onto arm. Tape glove to newspaper.
  5. Position dowel 4" to 6" in front of mailbox post. Angle dowel away from post; use hammer to drive dowel into ground. Slide upper arm onto dowel. Bend elbow and position palm under mailbox. Tie arm to post using fishing line.
  6. Slide fishing line through mounting hole on side of mailbox and tie around pointer finger to keep hand in place.
  7. Wrap shirt around base of arm to hide newspaper; pin in place. Pile dirt and leaves around base to hide where it meets ground.
