Position your car
Pull over in a safe, flat spot. Put the car in park if the transmission is automatic or in any gear if it's manual. Pull the emergency brake and turn off the ignition. Set emergency triangles or flares behind the car at three-yard intervals. Place a brick in front of and another behind the wheel that is diagonal from the flat. This will keep the car steady while it's on the jack.
