Find out how to get discounts (just for being you)

Discover bargains and discounts tailored just for you.

We've found ways you can save more and be rewarded just for being your own wonderful self. Ask yourself these six questions to see if you qualify for extra discounts and perks.

  • Are you a military family member? You can enjoy free a day of fun. Families of active service people (including the National Guard and Reserves) can visit Sesame Place or any SeaWorld or Busch Gardens for free, courtesy of the Here’s to the Heroes program (herosalute.com).
  • Are you a mom? You can save for college when you shop. Want to bank tax-free cash for educational expenses every time you make a purchase? Enroll in the free Upromise program (upromise.com), and earn up to 25 percent cash back from participating online retailers.
  • Are you a fitness buff? You can score insurance deals and discounts. To promote wellness, some insurers offer incentives for staying active, such as rebates at health clubs. United Healthcare offers a 5 to 50 percent discount on monthly fitness club fees for the family. Check to see if your insurance company has a similar program.
  • Are you unemployed? You can spend less on everyday items. As part of its Smart Assist savings program, Kmart is offering its out-of-work customers 20 percent off more than 1,500 regular-priced grocery and drugstore products for six months after signing up.
  • Are you a friend of the earth? You can earn points for recycling. Enroll in RecyleBank (recyclebank.com), and when you send in your old electronics, buy certain products on eBay or (in some communities) simply recycle your household waste, you rack up points redeemable at more than 1,500 retailers.
  • Are you a teacher? You can snag reduced prices on school stuff. Many retailers extend their student savings to teachers. You could get 15 percent off clothes from J.Crew, up to 20 percent off mobile plans from Verizon, Sprint and AT&T, and discounts at Dell and Apple.
