How it works: Download the PlayOn program (playon.tv) to a Windows PC, then view programs on your television via the devices above or on your computer at playon.com.

What you get: A variety of viewing options, including all of hulu.com’s free content, plus day-after viewing and older episodes of popular shows on CBS, CNN, Comedy Central, ESPN, MTV, Nickelodeon, PBS and other stations. Hulu Plus and Netflix also play through PlayOn if you subscribe to those services.

The catch: The program must be running on your PC in order for PlayOn to work on your TV. You also need to download and install plug-ins from time to time to keep your service up to date.
