When and why did you start blogging? I started blogging in 2008 because I began teaching coupon workshops. I felt like those coming to my workshops needed a place to go to ask questions and talk about their savings. The blog was built initially for them but has grown immensely in the last year or so to cover all types of deals, money saving strategies, recipes and frugal living lifestyle tips.

What is the best deal you have ever found? I once got a 6 month supply of Electrasol/Finish dishwasher tabs for 50¢ a box. They were on sale for $2.75 and I had coupons for $2.25 off one. These typically retail for close to $4...I spent $3 for the entire 6 month supply.
What have you done with the money you’ve saved? We use the extra savings to pay down our mortgage.

When I received my first email from a woman [who told me] how I encouraged her, not only in her role as a "family manager," but in how her family looked at their finances. What is the best deal you ever found? The best deal I ever found was a deal on personalized Santa Sacks from Pottery Barn. They were 75% off and we use them every year for the kid's Christmas gifts!

Why did you start blogging? After learning of our son's illness, we needed to buckle down and save for his upcoming surgery. I started to blog a few months following his procedure (in 2007) and shared great deals and other focused couponing techniques tips. Exactly a year after his procedure, we saved $6,500! I knew I found the means to help us get out of debt and the calling to help others learn how to do it too.
What have you done with the money you’ve saved? In February, 2010, we paid off all of our consumer debt! We've since paid cash for Christmas and gone on a debt-free vacation.

Why did you start blogging? Soon after we were married we found ourselves in over $100K of consumer debt. After paying it all off in just over 7.5 years, our friends and family kept asking us how we did it. We started our blog to share our story and help others by sharing what we've learned (and keep learning) on our journey while providing everyday, money-saving tools and resources.
When did you first know your blog was a success? When we received the first email from a reader letting us know that her husband had lost his job months before and without our site she didn't know how they would have made it financially. It was at that point we knew our site was a success!

What have you done with the money you’ve saved from couponing and smart shopping? My husband and I used or savings to work ourselves out of $37,000 in debt in just 27 months. We have also been able to build up a fully funded emergency account. Best of all - we were able to pay it forward and this holiday season by adopting a family and even had fun handing out cash to random strangers in our town!

Describe the best deal you have ever found. What was it for and how much was saved? The best deal that I've ever found was on a top of the line $2,000 Sharp 46" Plasma HDTV. My local store was willing to price match the $1,000 online price and I used a coupon on top of that to get it for only $600!

Describe the best deal you have ever found. What was it for and how much was saved? Saving 100% on a grocery item when strategically matched with a coupon is a huge accomplishment. We don't like to pay for anything that goes down the drain. There is nothing better than paying nothing or saving 100% at the grocery store. Also, we have many great Black Friday deals. Melissa's favorite is a $3 pair of rain boots that she scored!

When and why did you start blogging? Once I got the hang of couponing, my friends and family members were constantly asking me for help couponing or where they could get the best deals. I began to look for a place I could put all the information and then direct them to it. I discovered blogs and thought that would be perfect!

What are your top 3 favorite blogs and why? Pioneer Woman - Because anyone who cooks with butter and cream has my heart. Dear Photograph - I love seeing the photos of past and present together and many of the messages are so sweet. I Heart Organizing - I could read this site for hours looking at ways to make all the rooms in my house cute and organized!

Have any of your readers shared an inspirational story on how your blog has affected their lives? Yes. My favorite story was after a public presentation a reader came up to me and told me she had taken one of my classes a year ago and that she was able to drop their grocery budget from $800 to $400 and with the extra money she was able to pay off one of their cars early and she was working on the second. Saving money is great, but it is what you choose to do with the savings that really matters. Watching people use coupons to change their financial life is amazing!
What is the one coupon you are always looking for personally? I'm addicted to Kashi Cereal, so I'm thankful when new ones come out!

When and why did you start blogging? I started blogging six years ago to keep in touch with my husband while he was deployed in Iraq. After he was injured during the deployment we got serious about our finances since we didn't know if he would be able to work again. After getting out of debt and living off half our income I decided to change the direction of my site—from a memoir to a "how to"—so I could help other families who might be facing similar financial challenges.
