Scrub your shower squeaky-clean with these household staples:
  • Baking soda: Clean tubs, toilets and tiles with baking soda and a brush dampened with water.
  • Vinegar: Dip an old toothbrush in vinegar and use it to clean off mildewed grout between tiles.
  • Lemon juice: Put the juice on a sponge and wipe shower doors to remove soap scum.
  • Chlorine bleach: Get rid of mildew and mold on shower tiles with a solution of one part bleach to five parts water. Scrub with a stiff brush.
  • Dryer sheet: After you've finished cleaning the faucets, rub a sheet of fabric softener on them to polish and shine.
Save money by making everyday cleaners from products in your pantry:
  • Vinegar all-purpose cleaner: Mix 1 cup each of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and use it to clean counters, soap scum in the shower, non-wax vinyl floors and even toilets. (Don't use it on natural stone.)
  • Salt light abrasive cleaner: Use salt to clean small areas. It's great for removing coffee or tea stains from mugs or shining up silverware. To clean baked-on food from pans, sprinkle with salt, dampen the area and let it sit before washing.
  • Baking soda scrubber and deodorizer: Baking soda is perfect for cleaning bathroom surfaces, stainless steel appliances, sinks and stove tops. Lightly wet the surface, sprinkle baking soda on top, scrub with a sponge and rinse.
  • Lemon juice metal polish: This natural bleach and disinfectant cleans brass and copper. Sprinkle salt over half a lemon, rub it over the metal, then wash clean.
