We received hundreds of entries for our 2009 Most Adorable Dog Contest but could only print six cute pups in the magazine. Here are a few more we just had to share with you!
Owner: Carolyn Summerton, 50, Marietta, Ohio
Buddy’s favorite toy is a blue rubber ball. “He carries it everywhere hoping someone will throw it for him to fetch,” says Carolyn. “Buddy loves to run and play.”
Owner: Kelly Corcoran, 31, Nashville, Tenn.
Karma regularly does agility activities such as weave poles, jumps and tunnels. She also likes to chase squirrels in the backyard. She’s so spunky that sometimes her owners still refer to her as a puppy!
Owner: Shonnie Marie DeFore, 16, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Eevee is Shonnie’s best friend. “Her joyful antics tickle everyone’s funny bones,” she says. “She is loved by all who meet her.”
Owner: Kristy M. Wright, 30, Buena Vista, Va.
When Kristy’s friend rescued Charlie from the woods, the puppy was underweight and infested with ticks and chiggers. Now, he is “the most happy-go-lucky dog you’ll ever meet,” says his owner.
Owner: Sammy Marsh, 38, Albuquerque, N.M.
With two puppies in the house, life can get chaotic, says owner Sammy. “We definitely have our hands full but they are worth the effort and commitment,” she says.
Owner: Ginger Baker, 42, Salem, Ore.
A couple years ago, Ginger and her husband had moved to the city and Ginger was diagnosed with cancer. “With my family far away and my children grown, the house was so empty and dark,” she says. But bringing Cricket home lightened the mood. “We play and laugh a lot now,” says Ginger. “Life is so much better because she is here.” And, fortunately, Ginger is healthy again.
Owner: Becky Morrison, 28, Alpharetta, Ga.
Jeter loves being around people, says his owner Becky. “He’s a sucker for belly rubs,” she says.
Owner: Kim Teetzel, 45, Canal Winchester, Ohio
Rhett and Scarlett love to play Frisbee together. “As you can see, they’ve learned to share!” says their owner Kim.
Owner: Angie Krause, 38, Phoenix
Several of Angie’s loved ones have died (including her mother and father) but Maggie lifts her spirits. “Maggie is an angel disguised as a dog,” says Angie. “She is incredibly kind, loyal, fun and truly helped me through the loss of my family members and friends.”
Owner: Rosanne Mitchell, 37, Westville, Fla.
Kordie is obviously a curious pup. “Since bringing him into our home last December, our lives have not been the same,” says Rosanne. “Although Kordie is not even a year old, he has already brought so much joy to so many people.”
