Keep dogs from biting

Crate your companion. If your pet is loose in the car, it may block the driver’s view. Put your animal in a sturdy, well-ventilated, roomy carrier ($15-$171 at petco.com). If you don’t want to keep a large dog cooped up, consider buying a safety harness ($9-$40 at drfostersmith.com), which attaches to the car’s seat belt.
Prevent motion sickness. Feed your pet three or four hours before you get in the car so “arf!” won’t turn to barf. And don’t feed your cat or dog in a moving car―make a pit stop at meal times.
ID your pet. Put your name, address and cell- and destination-phone numbers on the tag in case your pet gets lost.
