How to get perfect orange segments

Dress up salads, cakes, breakfasts and more with pretty, presentable orange segments.

To best prepare oranges for salads and other dishes, follow these steps.

  1. Slice off the top and bottom of the orange.
  2. Cut off the peel, moving from top to bottom and slicing through the white pith, but removing as little of the orange as possible.
  3. Working over a bowl, cut between the membranes, allowing the segments to fall into the bowl.
  4. Squeeze the core and remaining membranes into the bowl to get every last drop of juice.
