If you shied away from braids because you assumed they were too tricky to do yourself, think again. Our step-by-step instructions will have you tressed up in no time.
Prep It! Dust a texturizing powder over hair to add volume and grip; brush to distribute from roots to tips and remove kinks. We like Vintage Glam texturizing powder, $8; at Sally Beauty stores.
Step 1: Make a left-side part and gather hair over the opposite shoulder. Take a large section of hair from over your left ear, then split it in half. Tightly twist each smaller section, then wind them around each other to form the rope twist. Secure with a clear elastic.
Step 2: Repeat Step 1 on the middle and right sections of your head.
Step 3: Using the three twists, create a classic braid; secure with an elastic. Gently loosen the braid with your fingers for that effortless look.
