Protect your hue

If you love your hair color and want to keep it that way, treat it right.

Shield it. Regular shampoos can cause fading, so instead cleanse with a mild, sulfate-free formula for color-treated hair. When you’re out in the sun, shield your
hair with a UV-protecting spray or cream. Try L’Oréal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care volume shampoo ($7; at mass retailers), which has UV filters, too.

Boost color. Revive your hue with an at-home tinted glaze such as John Frieda Collection Luminous Color glaze ($10; at mass retailers). You’ll see an increase in shine after only one use.

Condition, condition, condition. Because color fades faster on damaged strands (hair is driest from ear-level down), use a restorative hair mask once a week like Garnier Fructis Color Shield Fortifying Deep Conditioner Three Minute mask ($6; at mass retailers).
