Paint your radiator
Give an old heater a quick update with a new coat of paint
What you'll need:
220-grit sandpaper
Oil-based interior satin paint
Paintbrush
Rag or cloth
Glaze (optional)
Small paintbrush (optional)
Start with some basic prep work:
- Turn the radiator off and let it cool down completely.
- Lightly rub the surface with sandpaper to give the new paint a better grip. Use a damp cloth to remove any dust or oils and let dry.
Then give it a fresh coat of paint:
- Use the brush to cover the radiator with a base coat of the satin paint and let dry for 24 hours. Apply second paint and let dry.
- If desired, use a small brush dipped in glaze to highlight the relief spots. These are most often found in older radiators that are more decorative than their modern-day counterparts.
Quick tip: Choose a paint color similar to that of your wall to help your radiator blend in; choose a contrasting hue to make it stand out.
