Before you begin:
Off with the old. Cut off worn-out straps and remove the
screws or rivets from the frame.
Do the math. Determine how much replacement strapping you'll
need. Measure the distance from the back of the hole on one side of
the frame to the back of the hole on the other side. Then multiply
these measurements by the number of straps you'll be replacing.
Purchase replacement parts. Get new straps and fasteners
from a furniture repair store or garden center. The staff there can
cut each strap to your specifications and make holes for the
fasteners.
Replace the straps:
1. Soak the straps in hot water until they're flexible.
2. Push a fastener through one of the holes in the strap and
then attach it into the hole on the back of the frame.
3. Pull the strap across the frame, wrap it around to the
back, and push another fastener through the strap and into the
hole. Make sure to hold the strap taut while securing it to the
frame. The strap will stiffen as it cools.
