Beauty Pinch Hitters

Having a beauty emergency? Reach for products you already have in your kitchen and medicine cabinet.

Hand lotion

  • Try it to: Tame frizzy locks. Work a pea-size amount through hair, concentrating on dry ends.

Petroleum jelly

  • Try it to: Remove stubborn eye makeup. It even takes off long-wearing and waterproof formulas right away.

Olive oil

  • Try it to: Treat parched skin. After bathing, rub a thin layer all over, paying special attention to dry, rough spots like heels and elbows.

Spoon

  • Try it to: Relieve tired, puffy peepers. Place the back of a chilled spoon on each lid for a minute or two.

Toothbrush

  • Try it to: Touch up your hair color. Instead of tossing them out, reuse toothbrushes as hair-dye applicators to cover up gray roots.

Matchbox

  • Try it to: Maintain your manicure. Break a nail? Use the rough side of the box to file and shape the edges of your nails.
