Give kids a positive body image
Teach your children to be comfortable in their own skin. Ban these things from your home and you'll take the emphasis off their appearance.
Get rid of full-length mirrors.
They send the message that kids should fuss over their
outfit (and hair and makeup) before leaving the house. When the
mirror's not available, kids learn that looks aren't the most
important thing about a person.
Ban conversations about how people look.
Simply don't allow your children to judge others by their
appearance. It will force them to move the conversation to the
person's other qualities.
Ban racy posters.
Airbrushed posters of swimsuit models and pop stars make it
seem like all women should be a size 0 with a large chest. If you
do allow kids to put the posters up, at least tell them (often)
that the images are digitally altered, so what they're looking at
is not a "real" woman.
Don't allow fad diets.
Kids' bodies develop all the way through their teen years,
so diet plans that limit certain foods, such as carbohydrates,
could affect healthy growth. Make sure they eat a balanced diet,
which include whole grains, lean meats and plenty of fruits and
vegetables.
